acid goes to your head; x goes to your heart
"...repressed pain can be brought to consciousness and resolved, by re-experiencing the traumatic childhood incident and by fully expressing the resultant pain in a therapeutic setting... by re-experiencing traumas and expressing long-buried painful feelings, permanent resolution of neurotic symptoms will be achieved.
...therapeutic progress can only be made through direct emotional experience, which allows access to the source of psychological pain in the lower brain and nervous system. In this view, psychological therapies which involve only talking about the problem are of limited effectiveness because the cortex, or higher reasoning area of the brain... it has no ability to affect the real source of psychological pain in other areas of the brain."
